As of this year, I am a full-time freelance writer and aspiring novelist. Prior to this year, I worked as a scientist in the biotech field. While my career in science was rewarding, it also left me wanting for more. I yearned to be my own boss, set my own hours/days, and have total creative freedom. Quitting my job last year and choosing self-employment has allowed me experience the fulfillment of all those yearnings.

Of course, there are challenges too. Boredom, relatives who aren't sure exactly what I do all day, and the temptation to do anything else but my work can be serious impediments at times.However, as of right now, the advantages far outweigh the disadvantages in terms of working for myself.

My interests are many, and thus my HubPages hubs also vary in topic. I am a homebrewer, runner, photographer, writer, coupon-clipper, investor and traveler. I have a mother who is experiencing frontotemporal dementia, or FTD. I am also very much invested in personal health and nutrition.
